Vejle 0 Watford 4

Adrian Boothroyd has asked Watford fans not to take too much notice of pre-season results, as a squad with plenty of new faces looks to gell ahead of the coming season. Yet results like this can only bode well for the forthcoming campaign and improve the confidence of players and supporters alike.
Confusion reigned pre-match, however, over exactly who Watford were supposed to be playing. An initial email from Aidy some time back had announced our first Danish opponents as Vejle Boldklub, but the official site constantly referred to our opponents for the evening as B1913 Odense. However, with rumours of an injury crisis hitting Odense, the Hornets eventually lined up against the originally named opponents Vejle Boldklub.
Manager Boothroyd was keen to see how the Watford side would fare in a full match following intensive training earlier in the day, and if the result is anything to go by, the players coped admirably.
The first goal arrived courtesy of Jay DeMerit ten minutes vefore the interval. Following a corner, Sietes picked up the loose ball and delivered to the back post, where Marlon King headed across goal for DeMerit to nod home.
On 55 minutes King doubled Watford's lead as he broke onto a ball from midfield, drew the keeper and slotted calmly into the net.
It was the new boy King again on the score sheet within a minute to give Watford a 3-0 advantage. Jordan Stewart threaded a pass to Ashley Young, who in turn sent a low ball across the area for King to turn home with an outstretched leg.
The scoring was complete on 75 minutes when Jamie Hand, filling in for the injured Gavin Mahon and Bryn Gunnarsson, added the fourth. The substitutes combined as Paul Devlin sent a deep cross over to Hameur Bouazza, whose cushioned header fell nicely for Hand to tap home.
All in all it was a good night for the Hornets, with a comprehensive result capping a dominant display. Watford supporters will be hoping for more of the same once the League campaign gets under way in August.
