Hornets win Carlisle chase
Aug 5, 2005
Author: Iceman

Clarke Carlisle has become Adrian Boothroyd's ninth summer signing, joining on a 3-year deal from Leeds United for a fee of £100,000.

Watford saw off Championship rivals Stoke City in the pursuit of Carlisle, and this signing demonstrates
Watford's ability to attract quality players to the club.

25 year-old Carlisle has taken the number 5 shirt as expected, and is available for tomorrow's season opener against Preston North End. He may even make the starting line-up alongside Jay DeMerit, despite not having trained with the rest of the team.

Watford's squad now looks strong enough on paper to easily hold its own in the Championship. The rush of late signings has made supporters more optimistic of the club having a very successful season on the pitch, as efforts to progress the club off the pitch, particularly in terms of stadium redevelopment, continue.

GloryHorns offers its best wishes to Clarke for a successful spell at the club. Hopefully he will now score more for us this season than he scored against us last year!
