38 year-old Ferdinand has ben training with the Hornets all through pre-season and beyond, and has now signed on a non-contract basis. It is presumed that he will see out the season and then possibly hang his boots up for good.
The other signing is defensive midfielder Carl Fletcher, who has signed on a month's loan deal from Premiership outfit West Ham United. Fletcher played for Wales in their 1-0 defeat to England at the millennium stadium on September 3rd this year. He was snapped up by West Ham in 2004 by Alan Pardew after he impressed him while playing at League 1 side Bournemouth. Watford do not, however, have the first option to buy Fletcher if he becomes for sale. He is expected to return to Upton Park to fight for his place once his loan is up.
