Sep 18, 2006
Author: Inayellowshirt

Scouse boy 1 enters shot, puts ball on top of fridge, and opens it
Scouse 2: "Got any lemonade?"
Scouse 1: "If you want!" (he takes a bottle of milk from the fridge)
Scouse 2: "Milk.....Ugh!"
Scouse 1: "It's what Ian Rush drinks."
Scouse 2: "Ian Rush?"
Scouse 1: "Yeah, an' he says if I didn't drink lots of milk, when I grow up I'll only be good enough to play for Accrington Stanley!"
Scouse 2: "Accrington Stanley? ... Who are they??!"
Scouse 1: "Exactly!"
Scouse 2 tries to get to Scouse 1's milk.
Scouse 1: "Nah, gerroff!"
Scouse 2: "Gimmie some!"

For many of the more senior Watford fan, this milk TV advert is their long running memory of Accrington Stanley, our visitors to Vicarage Road this Tuesday in the League Cup.

“New improved” Accrington Stanley were formed in 1970 from the ashes of the previous team that went bust and resigned from the Football League in 1962. Starting again from scratch in the basement leagues, Stanley have risen through the ranks and rejoined the Football League this summer at the expense of Oxford Utd. Currently mid table in Division 2, Stanley have had a mixed bag of results but come to us on a two game winning run, scoring seven goals and having knocked out Nottingham Forest in their televised first round fixture.

The Hornets come into this game having still failed to gain three points in the Premiership, due to an inability to get the ball into the back of the net. The club has correctly made entry to this game cheap, which will hopefully intice a few people to the fixture and I expect a number of people will make a late decision to go to the game to boost what may still be a smallish crowd.

With absolutly no disrespect to Accrington, we really need our forward line to find their shooting boots in this game and ensure a good thrashing. Confidence in their own ability is something that will get erroded overtime, despite the positive approach to games from Aidy Boothroyd.

Personally I hope that Aidy fields our strongest squad, and that we put Stanley to the sword with a powerfull display against a side that may just come here with a damage limitation mentality.

Lets hope the cup fails to provide any suprises here.
