Wigan Athletic 1 Watford 1

This was a trip for me that asked many questions, but once again yielded few answers.
Having originally declined the offer to join Kethorn on the journey to Wigan due to a personal commitment, I found myself available to go when what I was going to do was cancelled! Unfortunately Mrs C was working in the afternoon, Little Miss Corby had made plans to visit her great Nan and Ket, having been blown out by me some 3 weeks prior had decided to coin it in by volunteering to work! So Billy no mates it was for me – I can’t remember the last time I went to a Watford match “solo”!
So onto the first unanswered question. Why do you always get stuck in traffic on the M6 for no obvious reason around junctions 16 – 18? Sailed through the road works at the end of the M6 toll and thought I’ll be well early here then no road works and no accidents just miles of queuing traffic! Same happened when I went to Everton! I still got there in plenty of time and the added bonus at the end of it was free parking right by the ground, despite what the Villa programme told me!
Next question: Why are most new stadia plain and soul-less? Don’t get me wrong, the JJB is a nice ground and is in pleasant surroundings, but seems bare and with no identity. I know they share it with the “egg chasers” but that is surely no excuse for a lack of customisation?
Onto the game – First Half forgettable, three good chances for Wigan, we had most possession but did little with it. Second half, all us! Marlon hit the post, Dan Shittu put the ball wide from a King knock down and Youngy could have had a couple, especially when he just “missed” his header from a pinpoint Bouazza cross. Wigan’s goal was not offside, Malky, having a very shaky first half, headed the ball into Kamara’s path who finished coolly. Watford’s goal was straight from the training ground with King touching the ball to Bouazza, when everyone was expecting Ashley Young to despatch it into the top corner, Hammeur coolly slotting the ball into the bottom right of the net from 25 yards.
Next question: Is there a team other than us who play long ball football? Yes, yes there is (at last an answer)! They go by the name of Wigan Athletic. To be honest they did cause a few problems for us with it in the first half. Perhaps there is hope that others can’t handle it and that is why Wigan have made a go of it in the top flight.
Finally: Why didn’t we win this game? God I wish I knew the answer to this one as this is the seventh time I’ve asked myself this so far this season!!!!!!
