We will lose either way so maybe some key players will be rested for the cup game next week?

I think our players and Javi were appealing for the handball more than the offside but nothing was really shown of that.

Shame as we did well with a 2nd string defence and hardly anyone up front.

Guess we might have lost anyway but you need a bit of luck in that sort of game - like we seem to have got in previous matches not against top 6 sides!

Seemed to give up at 3-0 a bit until Deeney and GD.

Least no-one of great important got sent off or injured by the looks of it.

Exactly.! I always thought the linesmen were mainly there to give the offsides, and I can't remember the last time a ref formally overturned an offside call.
Very silly refereeing, he tried too hard and basically left him open to calls of favouritism. After 3 mins of discussion he got his own way and gave the goal, only to be shown up on TV. Not the way to referee a game, I'm sure he'll get a rollicking for it....

I now they aren't going to be perfect but the officials do seem to say sorry a lot...

Will VAR help them? - we might need 10 minute injury time at the end of each game though!

Personally I would just scrap the offside rule. Fifty per cent of offside decisions are contested or too tight to call. Some are saying that VAR will cause more trouble as ref will have several reviews on offside per game and there will be huge problems where a ref has to decide if a leg or shoulder is slightly offside.
Offside in modern football is almost impossible to gauge 100% so scrap it for a season and see it works out.? No offsides will completely open the game up esp in midfield, if some players want to goal hang then fine, they are mostly out of the game. Just my thoughts.

VAR will help. There will still be mistakes, judgement calls and overall teething pains, but it will significantly reduce the issues. It also isn't disruptive if done properly. The standard needs to be "a clear and obvious error (or similar)", otherwise the call on the pitch stands.
