Rest players for the big one next week or go for a morale boosting win and top 10 finish?

Good question. Gracia has tinkered in cup games but not much in the league. If Chabs, Cleverly or Quina were fully fit he might have switched things about today, but apart from GD v Gray, H v Massina and a RB choice I can only see some midfield subs second half like last week.?

Had all the game .

2-0 down though .

God help us next week if Nolble can weave through our defence with ease !

Holebas straight red - does that count for the cup? Is it Wilf all over again?!

Red cards are carried over all competitions so he’s out of the cup final

Great!

Don't trust Masina and the rest of our defence are pretty unreliable.

Seems like the red card might have been harsh but then Holebas probably does have a bit of a reputation.

Our flat 4 defence is highly suspect, especially against the top six - so I vote to play the final with a 352 formation if Holebas' red card is not rescinded.
We really have tailed off since the Semi final but I guess for a team like us that is to be expected no matter how many people including Gracia say otherwise - the final is our biggest game for many years ! I reckon we tailed off at 40 points (again) if I am honest, but whereas the first half season we looked very assured in most games and really bossed the games at times, since new year I think most games have simply been "finely balanced" whereby we either nicked a win with a goal out of nowhere (eg Cleverly at Palace), or we get caught on the break and let in soft goals and lose.
Still our best season in the Prem but lets just hope we get in at least one good CB in the Summer ?!
I really hope the players get up for the final and give some sort of performance to be proud of one way or another .>!!!!

I don't think that the formation is the reason our defence is suspect. I think it's suspect because most of them don't run very well. That being the case... looking at our results against the top 6, I think that quality aside, I think our results have gone as they have because Gracia has been brave. He's had us play attacking football regardless of the opposition and mostly we haven't had the quality to "beat them at their own game". Some of it has just been bad luck. Honestly, we should have had 3 against both Merchandise United and the Arse.

I think that Javi will do something different this time. I think that we will bunker in more. Whether that's a 3-5-2/5-3-2, a 4-5-1 or something different. We'll have to clog the midfield and find some way to mark Sterling... then see what we can do on the counter or set pieces. It likely wont be pretty, but it may be our only way through.

I might do something like a back 5 of Janmaat (sorry Kiko, but you were too poor vs. Spam), Mapps, Cathcart, Kabasele, Masina (assuming Holebas is out)

Capoue, Hughes**. Doucoure

Deulofeu, Deeney

Hughes over Pereyra for his grit. Both can complete a pass from a deep lying position, but Hughes will get stuck into a tackle more. Pereyra can come on later if someone tires or if we're chasing a goal as he adds more from an attacking perspective. Deeney can drop off a bit for an outlet/hold up play. If we do get a break going the pace of Capoue and Doucoure will just have to get them into supporting positions.

We actually attacked quite well for most of the game before going down to 10 men but all 4 goals were avoidable.

We let some of their players get through us too easily and simply cannot do that against Man City.

It might cost him an FA Cup final spot but least Holebas was trying to stop the West Ham player and even most of their players and fans agree the red card was harsh (maybe easy to say after a win)

Mark Noble was Hazard running through our defence and I think Antonito fell over 3 times before still being able to shoot on goal and their number 10 was first to react.

Good points, we have tended to play the same way every game where other bottom 10 clubs have often gone for a very defensive approach. Gracia was originally a defence first coach, but eventually realised that we don't defend very well. This season he changed tack and went for an attacking approach, which now looks to have been a mistake in many games, but I guess Gracia is still learning his trade in the Prem.
A few decent signings this summer and we should be OK again next season.
