Doesnt that player have a name that sounds like vega......

My fellow watford fan friend said to me yesterday.

From one italian to another. and the journey inbetween that has made watford fans possibly the most pessimestic in the country.

To quote a favourite comedy of mine consider it as climging out the cellar, pleased the beatings have stopped but confused by the world infront of them.

Watford fans are used to at least gloom and at most doom. fed negatives from inside the club for the last 20 years its hard to change a persona that has been ingrained in us.

The first italian.

He came in on a wave of ITV money dispite that money never appearing we were told we had already spent it. Vega was on as much as beckham, blondeau was on as much as a french man who cant run could be. Issa was dropped not from the team but from a stretcher. I admit on the final day after watching sideways football and seeing my club disappear down the plughole i threw my season ticket on the ptich when vialli had the cheek to take his players on a final game walk around the pitch! (people clapped)

The next season the doom started. We had no ground, we had no players. I watched from afar as a excellent coach got us to two semi finals with nobody in the squad worth mentioning. yet we still had no money and were on the verge of extinction according to the club.

Boothroyd came in Simpson came in and a man called ashton came in. (If he did what he did for us at say millwall or west ham i think you know where he would be)

Boothroyd achieved the impossible and got us into the prem on the smallest budget ever achieved. We still sold Young and i hope the pozzo's were watching. A Prem young 16 mill. a champ young 3 Mill.

Still we had no money. We uilt some lovely flats for nurses to cover the cost of the east stand, Ashton came on sky sports and did a lovely presentation. (they also showed harry and harriet hornet getting married) it was clearly a joke. But flats for nurses yeah ok fair enough we get a stand and some nurses get a home.

The next season despite parachute payment and king going for 5 mill. we were told the purchase of ellington for 3.5 mill had bankrupted us. The flats were built and are now being touted to private tenants. Boothroyd gone.

Ashcroft came in, a man with no interst in football turned up in a minority seat just before a election. some were confused some thought he just wanted to give it a go. Harrington smiled.

However this was the start. Ashroft became a bondholder. so did franson. GT became chairman and stated he would not walk away until watford was safe.....

We sold and sold still no money. we over achieved. We never went down!

Baz came in, noone knew who he was some said he had a fleet of Bentleys but was on the dole. He continued the propaganda in the similar style.

1 mill on a new pitch the start of last season. Watford was printed in the corners very nice. (about £30) 1 Mill on a new tannoy system (same speakers? but the volume turned up) 1 mill on a new pub (old pub with yellow written on it and a few new windows) A new jumbo screen 1 mill. Nothing changed and i still squint as hard as i can at the disabled area scoreboard.

Builders had so many designs for the south west corner he couldnt choose which one was right. but he had earmarked the money for it. the GT stand.

And yesterday the mood finally changed. A little man was seen running down vicarage road. (ring road troubles) and i had the proud moment of pointing out a player to my son in his panini euro sticker album that actually plays for watford.

Can we smile? yes i believe we can....

It's almost poetic in its nonsense. Reminds me of this:

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe

Well instead of reading journalists views who have not been to watford for about 20 years let alone watched a game i did a bit of research and this was posted on another forum and i think it has ten times more worth than some journalist who supports newcastle/west ham/ arsenal.

You keep reading the spoutings of Journos, Il read and listen to the real fans view!

Agreed - is a stream of consciousness which must have taken about 2 minutes to get down on paper. Whoever it is, he or she needs a sub-editor

The reason 'journos' are employed professionally to write about (well, anything, but in this case) Sport, is because they possess excellent vocabulary and understand how to construct intelligent prose and syntactically perfect arguments.

I concede that the leading Football writers in the leading newspapers have a skew towards the Premier League, and often the 'Big 4', but I would far rather read the views of a professional, even if his views are based on second hand knowledge rather than through having watch 19/23 home games a season because he will at least be able to construct something readable, and in the Queen's English.

Your argument that you're a 'real fan' is somewhat tempered by your loose grasp of the facts (Young - £16m, King £5m?) and your insistence on supposition rather than hypothesising based on evidence.

Please don't make this a regular feature.

I'm afraid I have no idea what you're talking about. Are you saying that you didn't write this? Who did? Where?

Glad you explained you are feeling a little over sensitive this morning, if you fancy reading back I said I was being constructive.. not critising his view, but that the piece was a struggle to read easily in its format and I gave up before the end.

If you really want to believe I'd rather read only journo's views then do so... will only make you look foolish in the long run
